Wisma Mertha

The design concept of Wisma Mertha centers on "Functional Industrialism." It aims to create a striking visual identity in a busy urban intersection by utilizing a monolithic red-brick volume. The concept blends the rugged, textured look of industrial lofts with the clean lines of modern commercial architecture. By combining high-visibility retail space on the ground floor with a sophisticated upper-level facade, the building achieves a balance between commercial accessibility and architectural character.

Wisma Mertha is a multi-story mixed-use building that utilizes a bold, material-driven aesthetic to define its presence.

⦁ Facade and Materiality: The exterior is dominated by exposed red brick cladding, which provides a warm, organic texture. This is contrasted by matte black metal elements used in window frames, railings, and the canopy.

⦁ Roof Architecture: A distinctive feature is the dark-toned mansard-style or angled roof that incorporates large clerestory windows. This design allows for a light-filled upper floor while giving the building a unique silhouette.

⦁ Rhythmic Openings: The building features a repetitive grid of tall windows, each accented with a minimalist black metal balcony or guardrail, emphasizing a sense of order and rhythm.

⦁ Functional Zoning: The ground floor is designed for high-traffic retail, featuring a wide overhang (canopy) and transparent glass storefronts to invite customers. The upper floors maintain a more private, solid appearance suitable for offices or lodging.
